Last time

Today I went to long time favourite shopping mall for the last time. I have been frequenting this mall since before we even moved to Mississauga. And I also worked there for a short time (lottery booth). There is a toy store there that I like to shop in. You can buy dolls from the past years still new in the box at a reasonable price. Plus some new ones. At one time they even carried Silkstones, at half the price of doll stores. Albeit a few years later. So today I visited it for the last time. I had to buy something! Found the 2008 Holiday Barbie which I think is really beautiful. I not only love her dress but her face as well. She has eyelashes too. She will be a cabinet doll and not be counted in my population. I also purchased Troy and Gabriella from HSM. Just a different version/outfit and hair colour on Troy than the other guys. I always need guys no matter what size. They will be counted in the Dolton population which is now 2654.

Tomorrow we go to the lawer's to sign the final papers and take possession of our next house. Then Friday we drive to Cornwall. So I will be off line for a few days. I will have to remember to take my camera so I can take some pix of new place. I'm so excited. The time has really gone by fast, fortunately.

So I'll sign off for now, talk to you next week sometime.

The Creative Juices are Flowing once again

Today as I was packing up some of my new Loftonians, Rick's story came to me. I quickly stopped what I was doing and typed out 3 chapters to his story. Hopefully my past readers will remember Lofton. Of course these are new characters, who not exactly part of the town....yet. So here it is. LMK what you think.
CHAPTER  1
The sound of a motorcycle pierced the air as they sat sipping their brews in the bar. It was rare enough to hear a car engine go by never mind the roaring sound of a bike.  If the Weasely Limo ever drove up one never knew of its arrival until the occupants entered the premises. Daniel the chauffeur was much adapt of closing the door firmly but softly. This loud noise returned and suddenly stopped in front of the bar. Of that the patrons were sure.
In walked a rough looking man. Unshaven with long sandy blonde hair draped back in a loose ponytail. It belied curls of  youth.

“Give us a beer!” he demanded as he reached the bar, never sitting down.
Barry hesitated…
“Didn’t you hear me” the young man bellowed?
“You said ‘us’ so I was waiting for the other person.” Barry’s glib reply surprised even himself.
The patron just glared. “Give-me-a-beer” he said slowly.
Barry nodded and quickly pulled the lever for the brew. He hoped the guy wanted draught as his delivery for bottled beer had not yet arrived today. Delivery was always late after a holiday weekend.
The patron grabbed the glass and quickly swilled the beer down his gullet. Slamming the glass on the bar, he reached in his pocket for some bills to pay.
Barry drew a deep sigh as he was sure this guy would have walked out without doing so.
“Ah there she is!” the patron said a little more softly.
Everyone turned to see Bess walk in. She was late as usual but no one ever questioned why. And she never told them.
“So this is where you are hiding out eh, babe!”
His voice startled her. Obviously seeing this man did not bring pleasant thoughts to her mind as the look on her face was more horror than anything else.  When he did not get a reply from her, he continued…
“So this is where you are hiding out eh, babe!”
Barry moved quickly to stand beside Bess and drew his arm around her, then spoke. “Yes she lives here!”
The patron just laughed. It sounded evil. “I don’t believe that! With you!” he pointed at Barry. “And what about my kid? Did you adopt him?”
Barry let his arm droop from Bess’s shoulders. ‘She had a kid? No one knew. Perhaps that was why she was late everyday.  And how did she end up with this creep?’ All these thoughts passed through Barry’s mind in an instant.
“You didn’t answer me!” the patron growled edging nearer to Bess. She stood her ground and stared him in the eye. For a moment or an eternity they glared at each other. Everyone in the bar was curious to find out the past of these two.
Bess too was lost in thought. How did she ever get involved with this bum? Sure they both came from the poor side of town. Oh not only were they poor they lived on the wrong side of the tracks too.  Bess’s dad owned a small little pub at the corner of the street. Mostly bums and bad sorts hung out there. Her dad made her waitress there to help bring in the patrons. But she was never passed around. Although she did have a wild streak in her back in those days. Ahh so long ago. Rick was one of those bums that hung out at the bar. He was well known in the neighbourhood and was also highly suspected of the many robberies of the convenience stores and other businesses in the area. But no proof ever held up in court. And so he and his little gang roamed free pillaging the business whenever they liked. Her dad’s place never got robbed. Little did they know she was the gang’s girl! By becoming such it was a way of protecting her dad’s place from getting hit. But it became rather obvious why, so the eventual happened. But this time the boys were all liquored up and someone pulled a gun. Her father lay bleeding to death on the very floor where he made his livelihood. She had to tell the police the truth. With her testimony they were able to put the whole gang in prison. Until now….
Feeling his breathe on her, she shivered realizing the past was not over. Here was Rick once again threatening her. Only this time she had a child to protect, his child. Chills of fear crept over her.
All this time Barry was eyeing the old flintok rifle that hung over the bar. Would it work? Could he reach it? He didn’t think the patron was armed but….Oh where was Davy when you needed him?
CHAPTER 2
Rick who’s real name was Jesse Richard James and his twin sister Victoria were born in a run down shack along the railroad tracks. His father used to work the railroad until he lost his arm and a leg when he fell under a rolling train. His mom cleaned houses for the well to do but it was never enough to get them out of the area. His father thought it would be a good joke naming his son Jesse after the famous outlaw but his mother always called him by his middle name of Richard.  Rick never liked the named Jesse himself. Thinking despite the fact that it belonged to an outlaw it was a sissy name for a boy. So Rick was what he came to be known by.
He fell in with the gang at a young age. When he was supposed to be in school he often skipped and rode out with the boys. Once he became old enough to get a license he stole his first motorcycle. It was so easy. After that boosting cars brought in quick cash, until he got caught. Still being a minor he was given a light sentence and put in juvenile detention for a year. But once he got out he fell back in with the boys in the gang.
His sister Victoria was a beauty. She shared the same hair colour and lovely curly locks. He loved her dearly and did not want her to have this kind of life. So when the boys got into robbing stores and such, Rick saw this as an opportunity to help his sister out. Most of his share he gave to her so she could go to school. She graduated from secretarial school and got a good job in the government. When she had enough money saved she moved away and went to University in Montreal. By that time Rick was back in jail. Thanks to a botched robbery, a dead man (who he didn’t kill) and son he vowed he would someday raise.
Prison life was no different to being on the streets. Rick adapted rather well. And although he wanted to reform himself he found it much easier to deal in crime, even in prison it thrives as he found out.  But now he was out, he didn’t know how but he meaned to change and turn his life around. How he didn’t know. But first on his list was finding Bess. Yes, he knew she squealed on him. But murder was not in his blood. Even he would have squealed on the boys if he could get away with it. Most of them were lifers now anyway and it would be many years before they could catch up to Rick.
And now here he was confronting the love of his life. Oh she was so beautiful. It took his breath away looking at her. And their son, he must be 5 or 6 at least. Rick wondered what he looked like. His mom had told him the news when she came to visit him in prison.  He wanted so badly to see his son and hold him and promise him he would do everything in his power to keep him safe and out of harms way. But he couldn’t let his feelings show, not here, not in front of these strangers. He needed to get Bess alone and talk, no reason with her. Try to make her believe he was a changed man. Only he wasn’t. He didn’t know how to be. Look how he entered this place. No she would never believe him.
When the reverie had ended Bess demanded he leave. Rick hung his head and slowly walked out the door. It would not be the end of this relationship he vowed. Someday he would win her back. He just didn’t know how yet.
CHAPTER 3
The drive to Montreal was a long one. The wind was bitter off the St. Lawrence as he sped along the highway. Rick wished he had warmer clothing but he only had enough money for food and fuel. He was sure Victoria would take him in and help him. After all she did work for a lawyer or so his mom told him. Hah he laughed to himself, maybe she was a call girl and just made up that story for his mothers sake. Their mom could not have handled to lawless children.
He found the address of a walk up in a dark treeless street. Cars were parked on both sides making the roadway quite narrow. He parked his bike against the railing and proceeded to climb the stairs to her apartment. Rick took a deep breath and pressed the buzzer.
“Allo” her recognizable voice answered. “Qui sa?”
She spoke French! Rick wasn’t prepared for this.
“It’s me Rick, ah Jesse. Your brother. Can you let me in, it’s freezing out here!”
After a silence that seemed like forever he heard the door open, and there she stood. Oh she was beautiful this sister of his. They gazed at each other in the dim light for an eternity.

“Viens, viens, come in.” she told him.
He stepped into the alcove then followed her up the stairs to her apartment. It was cozy and warm.
“Mama” a child’s voice was heard.
“Shhh mon fil.” She pointed to a chair for Rick to sit on and disappeared down the hall. He could hear her soft voice talking to her son he assumed and then another little voice was heard. My goodness she has children. But she still held her maiden name. Was she not married? Rick never expected this scenario of his sister. But many years had passed and…
She entered the room and turned on the overhead light. “Well let’s have a look at you then.” Even her English had a french accent. And she was a woman now. A lovely one at that. Filled out in all the right places, not thin but proportionally built. Yes he could see her with a man.
“Where is your husband?” was all he could think of to ask her. It was not as he intended. Who was he to judge?
Victoria just smiled. I have none!
Rick could feel his mouth drop open.
Her laughter was bright and not forced. Ah my dear broder she spoke rather carelessly not pronouncing her words properly in English. You are not the only one who has a fatherless child.  Or children as in my case.
“Who is the father?” he managed to ask.
This time she did not smile. “He was my boss” she told him softly. But he has gone now. Back home to Lofton to his family.
‘Lofton’ Rick’s ears lit up at that name.
“Why I have just left that town. It’s where Bess is living.”
“You saw Bess!” Victoria exclaimed. “I had no idea. Did you see your son too?”
“Ah so you know.” He replied.
Victoria nodded her head. Mom writes me often. She has even come here to visit to see her grandchildren Victoria told him. “Come to the kitchen, I will fix you something to eat and we can chat and get caught up on things.”
And so they were reunited this twin couple from the wrong side of the tracks. What is next for them? Stay tuned.
Here's a picture of Bess and her (their) son Dan.

By the time I get the rest of the story written I hopefully will be in my next house and can set up some scenes. Sure wish I had a motorcycle for this size of doll.

Today is another lovely summer like day. I've got some serious packing done. Food mostly. The place is starting too look like a warehouse! LOL Hmm and I can smell turkey!

Lovely Day

It's a lovely fall day here. I am in a t-shirt and shorts once again. Had to dig out my flip flops which I had packed. Everyone on the street it seems is out working on the lawns or in the garden. I snapped this pic of the two cats checking it all out.

Was up til 4 a.m. packing in the basement. All my new residents that I bought this summer are now being boxed up. Next weekend we are leaving to take possession of our new home and the weekend after that we will have this house full of people to help us move. I sure hope the weather stays nice for us. Nothing is worse than moving in bad weather.
This weekend is our Thanksgiving. I did buy a small turkey and of course some pumpkin pie. It will be our last feast in this house. We have been eating out a lot since I am trying not to buy much in groceries other than bread, milk and the necessities.
Hey today is Scott Bakula's birthday. He was born the same year as me. Happy Birthday Scott where ever you are. It is also John  Lennon's birthday this weekend. Today I think. Can you believe he would have been 70!!! Peace Brother.
Have a good weekend where you are everyone.

Another Madman comes to town

Sorry I didn't post for awhile, my days have been filled with lawyers, insurance agents, and on the phone with utility companies and everything inbetween. A week today we get the keys to our new house! I can hardly wait. I still have lots of packing to do to. Next week will be a big scramble I am sure.
Today my second Don Draper arrived. He will be named Hugh Draper and will be Raymond's younger brother. Or maybe they will be twins or....well the possibilities are endless since they came from two different doll dealers. I had preordered this one from Vogue Collectibles because at the time I didn't know where I would be living.

Maybe Hugh can own a Garden Company or something.
Because today was such a gorgeous day I took him outside for his pic. It's what we call Indian Summer here. I am dressed in shorts and a t-shirt. Won't be many of those days left. But it was a good opportunity to work in the garden. After cutting the lawn (for maybe the last time here) I started transplanting the flowers that I want to take with me to Cornwall. These are perennials so they will hopefully adapt to their new environment. I've had many of plants in pots all summer waiting to go. But now I have also pulled some from the ground. I am trying desparately to pull up one of my hydrangea's but I may need Jack's help as the root has spread.  For sure I can only take one with me because the second Hydrangea is almost as tall as me and as wide. Now that's a big plant LOL
This weekend is our Thanksgiving. I did buy a small turkey to cook on Sunday. When we purchased the house I picked the 15th because I thought that weekend was Thanksgiving and I had hoped to have my dinner there. Oh well, it will be the farewell dinner here and I can have a bigger turkey for Xmas.
So T.G.I.F. everyone.

Bummer Tuesday

Well Tonner's Tuesday specials were a bummer. Sure 20% off everything on the site was a good deal. Unfortunately there wasn't much to be had! So after the downpour of this morning I took myself out to buy Victoria and Alice (Barbie size) from Zellers. They had some food on sale too so I didn't just go out for my dolly fix *grin*

Spent yesterday and this morning on the phone with lawyers, insurance and real estate. This is the blah part of buying a house. Necessary details to be done but uninteresting. Today I also started packing food items. Canned and boxed goods that don't go bad. And toiletries from the bathroom. I have enough shampoo and hair colour to start up a convenience store LOL Well everytime this stuff goes on sale I stock up. Nothing goes bad so....why not eh!
Last night I was one number out on all my lottery tickets *fume* Hopefully today's new numbers will be better. I am playing my new address but so far that number has not come up. Maybe it's waiting for me to actually move there LOL
So just a short posting today, not much else to say. Which is unusual for me I guess.  Maybe tomorrow will be more exciting!

Last of the Vampires

Today James arrived. He is the last one in the Twilight series that I am getting. Laurent is sold out (boo hoo) and Alice looks too much like Tyler anyway. Hopefully someday down the road I will get Laurent, perhaps on ebay. Anyway James' arrival brightened up what has turned out to be a gloomy day. We had some sun this morning but the day grew darker as the time ticked by. Now it is raining. Like we need anymore of that! NOT!

He arrived barefoot and without a shirt or top.
The rest of the day was spent on the phone with various people setting up insurance, legalities and just the boring stuff of buying a house. The fun part is over! I also packed a few more boxes. Mostly kitchen stuff. Spices and other assorted sundries that fill your cupboards. Mostly stuff you forget you had.
I should tell you that James' name will be his surname as I have named him Rick (Richard) and I have decided that Victoria will be his sister. Well they do have the same nose LOL

I am still crocheting like mad. I make several squares a day for my afghans and slowly the stash of wool here beside me is diminishing. Of course I have bins (and bins and bins) of wool packed in the pods. I will get to them in the new place. Less than two weeks to go. I can hardly wait.
Happy Monday, if there is such a thing!
Oh I almost forgot, I have to change my lottery numbers now!

Best Pals

Well after the sad posting of yesterday I needed something happy to post today. And these two provided it for me. Erika always had Mandy to cuddle with to keep warm. Because she is so thin she was always cold. With the weather changing (and rather quickly too) Erika became even colder. So I got out the crocheted afghan for her to snuggle in. This morning I guess even the new kitten (Patsy AKA Squirt) was cold and decided to snuggle up in it. Erika was not going to be left out and so decided to share her blankie with Squirt. I just had to take a picture of this.

As I mentioned above the weather has turned. It is not really cold but quite damp from all the rain we have been getting. Remnants of the hurricanes and rain storms that have been travelling north. Last night we had the fireplace on (it's electric) and the furnace ran most of the night too. I think there will be an early winter this year. Another reason why I wanted to get this move done soon as possible.

I did have rather a sleepless night but it was not over Mandy. I think I grieved enough for her before we put her down. I know now that she is no longer suffering. The other cats are calm now too. They were upset with my crying of course but otherwise have bonded together. What kept me awake is the impending move. I planned in my mind, not only the layout of Dolton (which I already measured for) but how I am going to pack my van and where things will sit in the house. I still have a lot of packing yet to do. Mainly everyday stuff which can't be done until the last minute.

I am still constantly crocheting granny squares. I am making 4 afghans at once but using the same colours in each one. They are quick to make and can be done if I am in the car or watching tv (which I have no time for really) or sitting here surfing the web (which I do too much of LOL).  One of the afghans will be for our new living room. One will be a gift and the other 2 I am making just for the fun of it and to use up my huge stash of wool. Squares take up much less room than skeins of wool LOL

I am pinning the hexagon squares on the bulletin board for now. I hope to have the whole board filled before we leave. I am planning to make another board like this in the new house. This one was here when we bought this place.  I will have a sewing room in the basement of the next house.  It's actually the 4th bedroom.
The room is large enough that it will hold my two sewing table/cabinets, the single bed and my big corner computer desk.  Like I mentioned in a previous post, this house has 300 sq ft more than this place. So I will have plenty of room for Dolton and everything else. So no more Lofton or Dolton Heights.
There is also a built in bar in the basement of the new house, which I was gonna trash but I have dreamed up a few scenes for it, so it will stay. It has a glass enclosed area (in the front of the bar) that I can use for scenes. I am thinking maybe Thornbeck's clothing store will go inside the bar and use the glassed area as a window front. Of course I can change up the scenes for whatever purpose I wish. The bar is actually a wet bar which means it has a sink with running water in it. So I could also use part of it for the Drysdale Beauty Salon and have access to wash doll's hair right there. The bar must be at least 7' long and maybe 2 feet wide. Maybe almost 4' high too. Of course on the top of the bar (counter) I can set up scenes too. Oh so many ideas and possibilities!
My only drawback with the basement is it is so dark. Dark wall panelling all around the room and only 3 over head lights which are dim. Like the basement in this house, Jack can always install florescent lighting for me. And there are tons of plugs all around the room. So I can use my xmas lights in the units for brightness until the new lighting is installed. I am sure it is not a priority on Jack's list LOL He wants to insulate the garage for himself, which he is turning into a workshop. The garage holds two cars and more and is also very high. The planking is there so he could build a loft in the ceiling for storage.
So we found the home of our dreams and everything else is just falling into place. Now I can hardly wait to get going.
I hope you are all enjoying your Sunday afternoon.

R.I.P. Mandy

Today we had Mandy put down. She had been in the vet hospital since Thursday. They continually had to drain her as she no longer can pee on her own and of course her bladder was filling up badly. All your bodily fluids  build up in there too. They did not know what was causing the blockage but the cat could no longer take a catheter and they had to drain her with a syringe. What kind of life is that for an animal? Anyway after many tears (and more to come I am sure) we made our decision. Both Jack and I were there for her and I held her as she passed in my arms. It was very quick and of course painless.
She had a good life with us. She hated to go in the van and cried and cried. I know in my heart she did not want to leave this place and so things have worked out as it should be. Remember when the kitten showed up at my door and I questioned why she was coming into our lives at this time. Well now we know. Only I thought it would be Erika that the kitten would be replacing. Little did we know. Ironically the kitten and Erika became close right away and Mandy actually shunned it. Anyway there is no guilt as we did everything we could for her this past week.

Packing, packing and more packing

Despite the fact that the majority of the stuff from this house is already packed in two 20' pods, I still have a lot to pack. Dishes, cookware, clothing, shoes, did I mention I have a shoe fetish? There must be 50 pairs here. I got really firm with myself and threw out 'two' pairs and put 5 pairs in the bag for Value Village. Okay so now we are down to 43 pairs of shoes. Maybe less. I think I got rid of all my Candi sandals before the summer. I just can't wear them anymore. Over the years I did scale down to lower heels and not the almost stilettos of the past. Being short I had a lot of tall shoes LOL These days anything over 3" is a bit risky for me. So many of my shoes are almost new, having so many they never get worn out.

Did I tell you about Mandy? She is one of my cats. The fat one. When we came home last weekend we noticed she wasn't well. Turns out she couldn't pee anymore. So off the emergency vet hospital where we spent 4 hours waiting for them to drain her. Well Mandy is actually a him but since he was given to us by our granddaughter, we named him Mandy after her. And they were so young the penis had not developed yet and we didn't realize until a month or so later that it was a he. Same with his brother Erika. But we had them both neutered and only the vet really knew the difference. Now he has some kind of blockage that is preventing him from peeing. After a week of drugs, he now leaks everywhere. Oh thank goodness the house is sold. Could you imagine having house showings with this going on!!!  I would have been beside myself. Anyway I am thinking that he has totally lost control of his bladder. Of course the vets keep urging us to keep on giving him the drugs and hope for the best. But they and I know it's a losing situation. He would not survive the 6 hour trip to our new home. And I definately don't want this to continue there. So far the other cats are good but if they keep smelling pee all over the place it may make them unsanitary too. I hate to put an animal down unless they are actually near death but what can we do?

On the bright side, two weeks today we get the keys to the new house. I am getting more excited by the day. Although I must say I am glad to have had one last summer here. Our yard is so pleasant it's like being in the country. The neighbours drive 5 hours to their cottage for this and I just walk out my back door. I will truly miss it. Our yard at the next house is almost as big but it is surrounded on 3 sides by neighbours. Who knows if we will get along and how noisy they are. I myself have a loud voice and we often like to have our music loud. So we may find ourselves in trouble too. We could have bought something out of town but we didn't want to be on septic tank and away from bus service. Jack is 71 now and although he is healthy today, who knows what the years may bring.  I can walk to all the amenities in town. It's a big farther than the walk I have now but that is okay. And if the weather is bad then I just hop a bus. Yeah I still have my van and Jack has his car but I always look forward to walking to the grocery store each day. I have no idea what to make for meals when I get up in the mornings so my walk to the plaza to browse around is a nice way of getting me out and helping along with my meal choices. Of course in England they do this kind of shopping all the time. If I have to pick up kitty litter or big stuff then of course I will take a vehicle. And when we drive to Ottawa to visit the kids you can be sure I will hit the stores that aren't in my town. Especially TRU!
Not that I need anymore dolls but....
BTW have you seen the Barbie size Victoria and Alice Cullen? I think I mentioned yesterday that I wanted to get them. I haven't had any luck with the lottery this week so we can wait until I do. With all the cat/vet expenses, the c/c card is really running up a tab. And we have been eating out a lot. Oh things will calm down once we move. I hope....until I get bored. LOL

It really cools down here now at night. Fall is definately with us. All those hurricanes have sent us lots of rain too, which cools down the lakes and makes the air cooler also. Living near or by the Great Lakes (Ontario) really affects your weather. That is why we are cooler in the summer and milder in the winter. It will be a different story living near the St. Lawrence. We will get a good dose of winter. Our snowblower will have it's tongue hanging out for sure. We always kept our winter boots and warmer coats for when we visited Ottawa in the winter. Now they will get worn much more often.
Well I'm rambling here, not much to talk about really. I just needed a break from packing. T.G.I.F. everybody.
